Hi lovelies! After seeing countless photos of the beautiful, orange foothills of Lake Elsinore, I decided to take a short drive up to see them for myself. You guys – I have never seen anything like it! If you’re looking to find the most beautiful superblooms in Southern California for 2019, look no further!
Visiting the Spring Wildflower Superbloom in Southern California
Only about an hour and a half drive from both LA and San Diego, Lake Elsinore boasts some of the most vibrant, orange poppy flowers around. The winter months have been unusually cool and rainy this year, which I have to be totally honest, I am SO happy about! I just moved from the east coast to San Diego about 7 months ago and it was hard adjusting to the brown and dry environment without any pops of green life. Thankfully, everything has come to life and no matter where you drive up and down the coast of Southern California, you’ll see green hills and lots of wildflowers of different colors!
I decided to wear the cutest little red polka dot sundress since it was so hot outside! I couldn’t find the exact one for you guys, but I’m linking a very similar one below!

TIPS FOR VISITING LAKE ELSINORE
- Visit mid-week. We went on a Friday and still ran into large crowds. It made it tricky to take photos in the most beautiful and densely populated flower areas at the bottom of the hill.
- Bring water and sunscreen. It was pretty sunny and dry the day we went and there aren’t any water fountains or shady areas.
- Hike up the mountain for the best views and some great shots.
- DON’T pick the poppies or destroy the grass beds. There are signs telling you not to do so. It’s a natural environment, we should respect it and keep it that way!
- If you crawl up the sides of the cliffs to get photos, the rangers will yell at you. Luckily, I got a few photos in before they came by.
