I’m so excited to share our Modern Bohemian Living Room Reveal today! You guys have been asking for a full apartment tour for a while, so this blog post is long overdue! Since we moved into our apartment in 2018, I’ve played around with this room so much. It started as farmhouse style, switched to modern coastal, a blend of bohemian coastal decor and FINALLY modern boho. I’d still like to think there’s a touch of coastal in the decor I chose. It was such a fun process!
I had my eye on the white tv stand and matching bookcases for a long time so that was actually the first piece of furniture we purchased. I knew I wanted the room decor to be light and bright, especially since our apartment was facing the darker side and lacks a bit of natural light throughout the room. As you can see, I chose a palette of white, tan, peachy pinks, gold and a pop of greenery. When you add plants to your space it adds personality and creates a sense of calm.
At the bottom of this post, I’ll show you what things looked like when we first moved in and first set everything up. It was quite a mess!
Decorating with Baskets
I love decorating with our weaved sea grass baskets. They fit perfectly in the entertainment center bookshelves. Avoiding dark colors in the book shelf helped everything else come together in the room. We’ll be putting more of these on our wedding registry to fill up other areas of our new place. It’s the easiest way to hide books or junk that you don’t want seen. I love how clean and organized it makes everything look!
I’ve had people ask where they can get the wood hanging to the left of the bookshelf. Matt’s brother actually made that and gave it to him as a gift. Each time he visits a new state or country, he colors it in on the map! Here are some similar handmade maps on Etsy.
The bottom drawers of the tv stand work great for storing books, video and board games, candles, batteries, electronic wires and miscellaneous stuff around the home. They’re pretty spacious.
One of my favorite pieces in the room is the ivory and gold planter. It’s just so gorgeous and it matches with almost any decorating style from farmhouse to mid-century modern, industrial and glam. You seriously cannot go wrong. I spent hours looking for a realistic palm plant and finally Wayfair had just the perfect one.
The corner of the room next to the couch was a tricky spot to decorate. We have an A/C unit in the wall that isn’t too pretty so I covered it up with white sheets just to take this photo. I wanted to keep this area of the room bright so the light would bounce off the wall easily. These rattan mirrors were perfect for that! A great design tip I learned is that mirrors make every room like bigger and brighter.
One of our most used pieces in the room is our record player. It was on sale from Bed Bath & Beyond for under $100 when we bought it. The wood finish is beautiful and well worth the price. We stumbled across an end table the same day which pairs perfectly with the record player.
I really love how everything came together. Comment below to let me know what you think! Check out the photos below to see the photos of what the room looked like when we first moved in. Xo, Jen
